Week 104: !!!

Image
Well it's finally here. This past week has been pretty interesting. An elder went home so we're in a trio with his companion for the rest of the transfer. Three other missionaries are going home as well, all of them before me which is sad. On Monday we found this part member family that moved in to the ward. They're way cool and have some un-baptized children. They came to church yesterday! And then during three minutes of passing one of them got offended by a member and left, RIP. On Saturday I was on exchanges with one of the assistants down in Rancho. We talked the whole day about cars and music and it was a nice break. Looking forward to this week I have my departing interview on Thursday and then departing Temple trip and FHE on Friday. Sunday afternoon I go down to the office and hangout with the assistants until they take me to the airport the next morning. If you've made it this far and you're reading this then congratulations! You've mad

Week 103 : Chino Hills, Tender Mercies, Full Circle

Image
On Wednesday I was privileged to be back down in the valley to take another missionary to a doctors appointment. We had an extra 20 minutes before his appointment and the fancy car dealership was on the way so of course we had to stop in and say hi to my favorite people on planet earth. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Tender mercies!! Thursday we had a mission leadership conference. It was my very last one so I was given the opportunity to give my departing testimony. Really didn't have any idea what to say so I related it to the last movie I watched with my family before leaving, Transformers. I talked about the quote from Sam's great-great-grandfather, " No sacrifice, no victory! " hahaha. Everyone enjoyed it (I think?).  On Saturday I was able to go down to one of my favorite places in the mission, Chino Hills. Someone I had taught right before I left was getting baptized. I got back together with Elder Worsham since he was the one that was

Week 102: 2 years later

Well this week was pretty fun! On Wednesday I was on exchanges with Elder Yumisaca who is from Honduras. His accent is hilarious and he's just a very fun guy to be around. Well during our exchange we got to teach these two sisters. Very humble circumstances. There was no furniture in the living room and just a tv so we sat on the fireplace mantle. After a few minutes I felt like I had really known these two girls before. So I started going through the past 23 months to see if I could figure it out. Then their mom came out and I totally recognized her and remember that they had lived with Diane way back when I was in my first area in Adelanto!! I remembered that when Diane got baptized they all came and that's when I met them first. Sooo cool!! Then on Thursday I was on a mini exchange with Elder Kunzler who is actually my grandson because Elder Worsham trained him. I was there for a few hours because his companion went down to the valley with my companion for a doctors

Week 101: Short Week

Image
Well it's only been a few days since I last emailed and not too much happened. There was a baptism in another ward on Saturday so we invited Yadira and her family and they came! We invited them to church the next day and they couldn't make it to our service but they went to the ward that meets at 9 so thats good! Other than that I got just under a month left out here. Hopefully it is fufulling and we can finish off on a strong note out here. Love you all! Love,  Elder Puzey

Week 100: 0-100 Real quick

On Thursday we had our monthly MLC meeting. We left pretty early and we drove down Elder Nordgren and Elder Martin from the Victorville area. We got down in really good time so we took a detour to an exotic car dealership that's in the valley. As soon as I walked in I said that I was in the celestial kingdom. We spent nearly an hour walking around looking at the cars, taking pictures and drooling. It was one of the best hours of my mission. During that meeting we had about 20 missionaries in the mission home with the mission president and wife. We were talking and Sister Taylor saw some Jehovah's Witnesses walking to the front door and said that they were in for a surprise. Right before they knocked the missionaries closest to the door joked about having them come in to join us. During lunch they gave us some frisbees to throw around which was fun. On Saturday I was on exchanges with Elder Palacios. We were driving around and saw a sign on the corner of the road adverti

Week 99: I got 99 problems

Transfers today so don't have much time again. I'll go over some of the highlights. We did a lot of service again and most of it has been for people not of our faith or part member families which is awesome! Also bringing back a nice missionary tan On Saturday we watched conference with half of the Mendoza family for the afternoon session. Luckily the kids were mostly in the back so they weren't too distracted.  Back in the first area almost two whole years ago the Samoans used to take us to this place called W Spoon which is an all you can eat seafood, Chinese and hibachi grill buffet. Ever since the start of this last transfer I've been hyping it up to my roommates. Last night we finally sent it. Elder Nordgren and some other missionaries from the Victorville zone also showed up so it was a big party. I don't think I've ever eaten more in my whole life. After letting my first three rounds settle for a half hour I went back for another couple of pla

Week 98: Tic Tac Toe

We had a pretty busy week this week. Because of the recent rain there are a ton of weeds in everyone's yards so we have become Hesperia's number one landscaping crew.  So on Wednesday we had a pretty exciting 15 minutes. Story time: We decided to try someone that had been taught in the past. We get to the house and start walking towards the front door. We spot a kid that's looking at us through the side chain link fence and is quickly accompanied by a German Sheppard. The kid lets himself out before the dog can get out and points us to the front door and tells us "inside". The child then decides to try and get back into the fence at which point the German Sheppard and a Husky bolt past him. My companion is out of there and already at the truck while I just stare at the multi-colored Husky eyes coming in hot to obliterate me. I close my eyes and accept my fate and when I look down I see the dogs smell my feet before they start booking it down the road. T

Week 97: Paradise

Image
Sorry fam not too much time to write today. We spent a lot of our time this week doing service. It's been raining a lot more than usual so green weeds are popping up in everyone's yards and they want them gone. Can't hardly believe these desert people want the only green they ever see out of their brown yards. Speaking of green yards though, we had a zone activity at a bishop's house today and man was it nice!! The pictures will describe it a lot better but there was a basketball court, volleyball net, two fire places, ping pong table and they even hooked us up with the wifi password. None of us wanted to leave Paradise.  On Wednesday I was on exchanges with Elder Worsham. He's the Elder that I trained down in Chino Hills. We had a great time catching up, reliving old memories and all around just having a great day together! Yesterday the house finished off our first weekly poker touranement and your boy fell into second place after mistakes were made du

Week 96: 70

Image
Just spent a couple hours washing and cleaning the truck so now I have no time to email. Sorry gang Highlights: Tuesday: had zone conference where we received some good instructions and trainings. Wednesday: I was on exchanges with Elder Brower. He is a great missionary and we spent the day teaching people and talking a lot about life (girls). Friday: got to do a lot of service. We also got in contact with a really cool woman that had her name removed from the church but still loves missionaries. We had a nerf war with them. Saturday: in the morning we were invited to go on splits with the stake presidency. Little did we know there was an area 70 there, Elder Murray. So we were under dressed a little. I went with one of the stake presidency counselors and we got to visit a couple people. Then we got some life and marriage advice from everyone once we got back and had lunch together. Sunday: stake conference and I got to see a bunch of people from the Bear Valley ward. Got

Week 95: Urgent Care Trip

Image
A member recently told us that the Indians named this place Hesperia because all the clouds seem to go around it and it looks like there's always a hole in the sky. Just a fun fact for all of your who weren't wondering what Hesperia meant.  Some good news before the sad news. On Wednesday I was on exchanges with Elder Willes, we were zone leaders back in Rancho Cucamonga and now he's an assistant to the President so we got to go on exchanges! It was really fun to be back with him. He's a really diligent and hard working missionary and I just knew the day was going to go well and it did! We had a few lessons, taught someone new, did some service, got some In-n-out, tracted a couple doors and talked A LOT.  On Saturday I was on exchanges with Elder Crandall and it was a blast. At one point of the day we found ourselves really close to the family that I taught in the Bear Valley ward here in Hesperia. They got baptized in October which I was able to come up for but

Week 94: Crap Hit the Fan

Image
Sorry guys not much time again today. This week was pretty rough not gonna lie. Here's a list of less fortunate things that happened: One of our investigators ran away from home.  One of our investigator's dad went through a heart attack. The family we have on date canceled all three appointments for this week.  No one showed up to church.  We let some other missionaries borrow a key to the church and they lost it.  Luckily life is still good. We've been back on the work out grind. One of the other missionaries I live with, Elder Crandall, and I have been hitting the gym hard. We got the truck washed up today, beautiful 60 degree day here in California. Yesterday we had a missionary fireside for all the recent converts and people being taught in the desert and my old comp, Elder Dietrich gave a talk so I got to see him. It was super good.  Other than that we're really hoping this next week goes a little better than last week. As always I love yo

Week 93: Four man

No time today. Update: Elder Dietrich got transferred, ver very sad day. Elder Melville is my new companion.  Our area is now split between two sets of missionaries. Sad day to lose my private bathroom but Elder Crandell from the Ontario days is one of my new roommates. Super busy today with transfers and getting some stuff together for our stake meeting on Thursday.  Love you all!  Love,  Elder Puzey Editor's Note: No pictures today but got this from a mom in the mission: We love having Elder Puzey in our ward! He has been great for our second boy, Colby! As one missionary mom to another, I just wanted to let you know you have a great son who is a hard working and obedient missionary!

Week 92: My son

Image
Well I'm not going to lie we didn't have a very eventful week this week. A couple highlights: Get to call home every week now, all missionary mom's prayers have been answered.  I was on exchanges with Elder Worsham on Wednesday. So good to be back with my son for the day. They also gave us their squat rack and some weights so that's nice.  A bunch of elders in the zone did service for Brother Winkler on Tuesday. Some of you might remember Brother Winkler from about a year ago. He's in the Bear Valley ward where I used to serve. He's deaf so I was asked to help him replace the clutch of another member of the ward's Geo Metro. Well this time we helped him move some wood around and 4 cars that haven't moved probably since I was born. Super fun time though. He also gave us some weights so we've been super blessed recently.  This week the Ibarra family came to church so we had a few more people at church than last week but we're greedy
