Week 6: The Power of Spirits

Image
It's felt like we've been standing on the surface of the sun the past few days. We were kissing 115 degrees a couple days ago but I hear it's supposed to get cooler (under 105) here for a few days so that's good! Throughout the week no too much happened. We teach 2-4 lessons each day and do general missionary stuff each day. On Saturday the elders that we live with, Elder Reilly and Elder McLaws baptized their two investigators who are mother and son so that was cool!  Yesterday was what I want to talk about the most. The first order of business after church (we're there from 7-4 because we cover two wards and got to ward council) was heading over to a less-active's house. Apparently some elders had gone over there previously to cast out evil spirits and it needed to be done again. It is important to remember what Elder Holland has said, "We speak boldly because Satan is a real being set on destroying you." It might seem like a low budget Ghost

Week 5: Samoan Party

First off I want to wish a Happy (late) Father's Day to all the fathers and future fathers out there! I know my Dad and Grandpa have been amazing examples to me and I want to give them a special thank you. Elder Etheridge and I cover the Samoan ward up here in the high desert and it has pretty large boundaries so luckily we get nearly 2,000 miles to use every month which keeps us out of the sun in our brand new Tacoma pick up. We work the A/C extra hard trying to stay cool in the desert which has been sitting at around 107 degrees the past few days.  On Tuesday Elder Etheridge and I headed up to Barstow to help move things out of a missionary apartment since we have a truck. Let me tell ya, I thought that Adelanto was in the middle of the desert. We drove through 30 miles of complete desert in order to get to Barstow which has like 3 grocery stores. We had to go to the dump to throw some stuff away and I took a picture so hopefully it captures the scene pretty well. On

Week 3/4: Meeting the Messiah

So because of the transfer schedule and when I had my P-Day in the MTC I wasn't able to email last week so I'll try to catch up. My MTC companion and I were able to walk around the two new MTC buildings before we left so I'll send pictures of the inside and the view from the top floors. That's really all I can remember from my last week at the MTC so sorry! So my trainer is Elder Etheridge who is from Alabama. He loves cars and he loves music so we get along really well. When we're not talking about the Gospel we're talking cars. Our first lesson together was teaching an investigator named Ken. He welcomed us in and was sporting some nice shorts and nothing else. We taught him about the Word of Wisdom and challenged him to apply it and live it in his life. We are going back sometime this week in order to follow up with him. Before we left I was able to give him a blessing that he will be able to find the strength to avoid temptations and live up to his c
