Week 85: That week between Christmas and New Years when you don't know what day it is

Image
Well probably lots to update on since I didn't really feel like writing much last week. Recap of last week in pictures: 1. We got arrested! Jk some guy got arrested outside and so the doors were locked and we had to bang on them to get in.  2. Christmas eve!  3. Trip to the mall!  This week was pretty good. Can't beat being able to FaceTime the family and talk. On Thursday we did our usual weekly service at the community farm and some of the other elders in the zone have been joining and we've started a tradition of going to eat lunch afterwards so all the Christmas gift cards have come in clutch. On Friday we did some service for Larry. So Larry has an adopted grandson, a granddaughter and a grandson-in-law that live with him. He's getting pretty old so it's hard for him to clean and stuff like that. So we volunteered to help clean up the backyard in preparation for their new years party/BBQ. As we clean up the back porch and the lawn we got to

Week 84: Merry Christmas

Week 84: Merry Christmas I love you all! Make sure to light your faith during this Christmas celebration. Love, Elder Puzey

Week 83 : Bweakfast

Image
On Saturday morning we helped with the ward's Christmas party. We had breakfast with Santa. There were pancakes and cinnamon rolls, so good!!  This week we got to do a lot of service to help light the world. On Thursday we did our usual service at the local community farm with some of the elders from the zone.  Then Thursday night we got to go to a members house and Elder Palacios was tasked with going under the house to run a cable for them.  Then on Friday we got to go to another members house to help with Christmas lights and their tree. Every year that I can remember I've helped my grandparents with their Christmas lights every year so it was nice to continue the tradition way out here!  This week we FINALLY caught one of our potentials at home. Her name is Christina and we first talked to her like three weeks ago. We got to talk to her about the plan of salvation but she had lots of questions so we were kinda all over the place. She told us to tell her some

Week 82: It's beginning to look a little bit more like Christmas

Image
Well on Wednesday and Thursday it rained a TON. Those two days probably had more inches of rain than every other day on my mission combined. We don't have very many miles and we didn't want our bikes to become rusty paper weights so most of those two days were spent walking. We got soaked to the bone haha. Reminded me a lot of Seattle.  Saturday we had some good things happen. We were going around and trying some people that had shown some interest and as we were walking up to one he was standing outside eating breakfast. So we finally caught him home and got to teach him out in the front yard. My face started to boil but hey we taught someone new! We couldn't really gauge how interested he was so I guess we'll see if he holds up on the return appointment.  Yesterday we saw some mini miracles as well. We went to try a potential and when we got there they weren't home so we went a couple doors down and saw that another one of our potentials was working o

Week 81: Worldwide Day of Service

Image
So on Saturday we had our world wide day of service. Our day started off by going to help a member of the ward move. Luckily their new place is still in the area boundaries so we didn't lose them. After helping them move we went over to Larry's house to help with some cleaning. He's pretty old so his ability to clean isn't stellar but he tries. He has to spend most of his energy keeping the front room and kitchen clean since none of his grandchildren and responsible enough to do it. Thus he has no energy to clean his own room. We spent about 5 hours there de-cluttering and getting things tidy. Then he took us out to eat at some chinese place and it was pretty good. Overall it was some quality time with Larry. Then we went to the church and we mopped the whole gym because ball is life. Sunday rolls around and we finally taught someone new. Her name is Star and she's a referral from some other missionaries. We had contacted her earlier and set up a return appointm

Week 80: Thanksgiving

Image
Well I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving that included a lot of Turkey and football. Normally we only get an hour for dinner but because it was Thanksgiving we were allowed to stay for three hours. We had dinner with a family that feeds us pretty often so we knew them really well and in between plates of turkey and potatoes we talked about movies and missions and stuff like that. It was nice to have just a little bit of relaxing time.  We had a cool experience on Friday. We had just finished eating dinner with a brother in the ward and we were trying to figure out what we wanted to do. A few weeks ago we stopped by a part member family and they told us to come back after Thanksgiving. To me that means like a week or so afterwards cause everyone knows that Thanksgiving really lasts until the leftovers are gone. Well Elder Palacios was adamant that we stop by this family because technically it was after Thanksgiving. We show up and the husband (the one who is not a member of the

Week 79: Bike Tricks

Image
Miracle moment: Early in the week we were out tracting and we talked to this lady for just a couple of minutes. She is Asian and so we had to be simple so we left our phone number, the church times and address on a card with her. Well come Sunday Elder Palacios and I are sitting on the stand because we had to give talks and the sister missionaries were sitting next to her! After we went to mix and mingle and we got to talk to her for a couple of minutes. The sisters told us that they were walking into the church and saw a woman wearing jeans and thought that she had probably not been to our church before so they brought her in. She said that she really enjoyed it and that she would come back again next week. We're going to stop by and try to see her tomorrow. Other news: We set up our three foot Charlie Brown Christmas Tree and we're in full Christmas swing.  We got to go to the temple on Friday! It was a really good experience and it was nice to have a couple hou

Week 78: Tender Mercy Shop

Image
Honestly most of this week Elder Palacios and I were working at like half speed because we had colds. We are already pretty tired from biking hours on end but that mixed with our bodies trying to fight off a cold made us pretty slow. Tender Mercy Story: We were biking to our dinner appointment on Friday and as we were peddling along I caught a glimpse of something on my left so I made Elder Palacios stop and turn around so I could get a better look. We biked down into the little industry block and there was a tuner shop with 3 Lamborghinis and a handful of Audi R8s. A couple of them had there engines missing and we saw that they were being worked on inside the shop. See pictures Pretty much it for this week. Love you all! Love, Elder Puzey

Week 77: 77 and BAPTIZED

Image
Well I honestly don't feel like writing very much today so here's some highlights: Wednesday: No one came to our apartment for trick-or-treating  :( Saturday: The stake had a big old swap and shop that we were asked to help with for a couple of minutes and we snagged a storm trooper! Larry got baptized too!! So happy for him. I haven't been here very long but Larry is the man! His wife died pretty recently and he had a dream that she told him to go to church and then the next day he walked in and met Elder Petrie. Ever since then he's been looking forward to being baptized. He still has a lot of questions but he shows so much faith to press forward without all the answers. Larry is 77 years old so he doesn't bend very well so we were a little concerned about dunking him backwards. Larry asked the bishop to baptize him and we had Elder Palacios in the font to help bring him back up. Worked flawlessly!  Sunday: Larry's brother-in-law confirmed him and then

Week 76: Biking

Image
Well this week consisted of a lot of biking. Honestly it wasn't too bad, felt good to get fresh (very polluted) California air. What was less cool was the fact that we thought we covered the south area when in reality we cover the north part of the ward. So everyday up till Saturday we had been biking about 3 miles into our area which consists of going across train tracts on a bridge which makes it up hill both ways. Funny enough the road with the bridge was called Mountain, and it sure felt like one. Another headache was scrambling to get a baptism set up. Larry has been meeting with missionaries for a while and he's going to get baptized on Saturday. Well when I came into the area (7 days ago) I thought everything would be all lined up and ready to go but nope. On Wednesday I realized that he had still not been interviewed for baptism. We have a rule that people are supposed to be interviewed 10 days before they get baptized. Well it was Wednesday which is exactly 10

Week 75: Ontario

Image
Well I thought I'd be in Chino for a little while longer but I guess I'm needed elsewhere. I've moved a few miles north into the Ontario zone. My new companion has been out for six weeks so I'm finishing up his training. So I'm kinda like his step-father. We're in a hybrid area so I'll have to use my bike sometimes. About time! Sorry there's not much to report this week. I'll have more next week! Love you all! Love,  Elder Puzey My new whip and new companion Elder Palacios Got to go to a car show that the stake puts on

Week 74 : The Salvatierra fam

Image
During my last transfer in Hesperia Elder Nordgren and I were preparing for the baptism of our investigator Vivan. We were all set and the Saturday came. We didn't have anything planned for the morning before the baptism so we filled it doing some tracting (we did a lot of that in that area). It was slightly raining and we were coming to the last house on the block without much luck. We knocked and met Tony and Lupe Salvatierra, talked to them for a couple minutes and told us we could come back the next Saturday. Pretty average contact. Well we show up the next Saturday and they have snacks and waters on the table for us and the family is there ready to take notes. A couple weeks later we both got transferred. This Saturday comes around, 8 months later, and they got baptized! So here's how Saturday went: Elder Worsham and I drove up to Rancho to meet with the office elders, Elder Nordgren and Elder Bryner. We swap companions and then Elder Nordgren and I head up the pass
