Week 54: Subway Dancer

Image
So we often drive past this corner because it's the turn we take to get to the church building and the past few weeks we have spotted this awesome sign twirler. I have never seen someone so dedicated and so good at getting people to notice his Subway sign. I don't know how much he gets paid but the man needs a raise (don't mind the Hugh Nibley talk in the background).  So we were able to meet with a few of our investigators which was nice. If any of you remember a couple of weeks ago we were teaching our new investigator Luis and some lady randomly asked us to come back and teach her son. Well we did go back and we were able to teach him. His name is Chris and he had actually talked with missionaries before so a lot of what we shared sounded familiar to him. The lesson went well, I'm not too sure how interested he is but he's nice and he seemed to understand pretty well. We also met with one of our YSA investigators, Jeremy. We talked to him about the Plan of Sa

Week 53: Catching my shirt on fire

I thought I'd go with a more interesting subject line to see if I can trick more people into reading my emails. Let me know if it worked. The reason for the subject line is the fact that this last week I hit my year mark and that means the traditional burning of the white shirt. (See pics email) I had to cut it into strips and put them in a baking pan to keep the flames down to make sure I didn't burn down our balcany or entire apartment building. (Fun fact: The smoke alarm went off for like 5 seconds at 2 in the morning the night after the shirt burning. We still can't figure out why since the flames were sitting in two inches of water for hours by that point) More fun stuff from the week: We got taken to an authentic Peruvian restaurant and it was suppeerrrr good. To finish it off we had some ice cream made with some plan or fruit or something only grown in Peru.  We took some pictures in the middle of Euclid, my favorite street in Upland. (Upland is the city just

Week 52 : Living on a prayer

Well this week I'll hit my halfway point which is pretty crazy. This week was a whole lot of figuring out how to use our phones and messing with Facebook and stuff like that. We did have a pretty cool experience though. So with our phones we get this app that basically is an online version of all the stuff that we usually have to record on paper. Well other missions have had phones for a while so when we finally downloaded the app we had some referrals waiting right there for us. So we ended up calling one of them and he actually answered so we set up a time with him and got his address. Well we show up on Saturday for our appointment and we have a lesson outside. He really understood the Restoration really well because he actually would clarify what we were saying by putting it in his own words and then asking if that was correct. Well as we were teaching there was a lady who was leaving her apartment and walking towards her car but then she stopped and asked us what church w

Week 51: Phones and Facebook

Well I don't have too much time to write a big ol email to everyone so here are some highlights. We got our smartphones finally so that should really help us out in our missionary work. We had transfers today, luckily there weren't too many changes so we didn't have too many hiccups and everyone got to where they needed to go.  We didn't really have too many lessons this week, we got to meet with Margie but that's about it. Our ward mates had a baptism so good for them! Elder Bryner and I are really excited to be together for another transfer and we are hoping to get a lot of work done before we part ways.  Our mission is now a "FaceBook" mission so we'll be trying to figure out the best ways to fulfill our purpose with this additional tool that we have. I hope y'all are doing good. I'm going to have more pictures now that I will have a camera in my pocket 24/7 again.  Love, Elder Puzey Family used to go camping at Mt. Raine

Week 50: Insert Good Line Here

Don't have too much time so here is a fast update: Not too much happened this last week although it flewww by. On Saturday I was on exchanges with one of the assistants, Elder Prestwich. He actually trained my last companion, Elder Nordgren. We had a good time together in his area and we were actually able to teach three lessons (which is pretty good in the city). While on exchanges Elder Bryner was with Elder Etheridge (my trainer) and they were able to teach two lessons! One was to a new investigator who was actually a referral from our ward mates and they said it went super well! (There were tears involved so must have gone somewhat well) And they were also able to teach Don and from the reports they had a super in depth lesson about the apostasy (like all the dates of important events and things like that). He's an engineer so he really wants intellectual answers and evidence so we'll see what happens. He's been texting our ward mission leader so it's good t
