Week 28: The Liahona

So we've been here for a week now so we're starting to get things figured out. This week actually flew by for me cause we were super busy! So Monday was transfers and that takes the whole day so that was over instantly. On Tuesday we were down in Rancho again to help bring up the luggage of the new missionaries in our zone. On Thursdays the assistants came up to the desert to talk to us and the other two zone leaders in our stake. All four of us have never been zone leaders before and have never had a companion that was a zone leader so they answered the questions that we had and walked us through some of our responsibilities and such. It was much needed. On Saturday we were back down in Rancho (I'm not complaining cause I love the valley) to go on exchanges with the APs. They live in the backyard of a members house and they call it a barn but the inside is exactly like a house and it is so nice! It's probably 3 times the size of our apartment. While on exchanges Elder Low took me by one of their potentials that has a Mclaren 570 S so you already know I took some pictures of it. Truly a tender mercy. We had a good time and I learned a lot from Elder Low who's about to go home right after Christmas.

The title for this email come from the GPS that we are using right now. When we first got here we managed a couple days without one, a giant map on our wall and the couple of times that I drove through Hesperia to see contacts in my old area was our only knowledge of the roads. So we began to ask around for anyone that had a spare. Luckily one of the elders recently got sent a new GPS so he is allowing us to borrow his old one. He called it the Liahona. They told us that it works on faith (it's really slow). But it's better than nothing and it gets us in the general area.

The new ward that I am in is super bomb and they have been helping us out so much with figuring out the area, people to see, less-actives and so on. It has helped us get settled into our whitewash situation. It has also taught me the huge impact that members have on missionary work. Our ward mission leader has recently asked us how we can get the members more pumped to do missionary work and not just be an example (cause that isn't always enough). So here are some things that I suggest to all of you to get a little bit more pumped to help out the Lord's work.

1. Pray. Pray for opportunities to arise that will allow you to share the gospel with friends, family, strangers and everyone you see. This can be as easy as sharing something online which brings me to my second point.
2. Use the Christmas initiative. Light the World cards are awesome and easy to share with people in the flesh but you can also share it with far more people right there at home. They're going to be posting one video a day, everyday in December to help others feel the Christmas spirit. Nice and easy, nonthreatening.
3. Invite the missionaries over! It could be for dinner or FHE or just to simply have a lesson with them. I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking a break from having doors slammed in their face. They'll invite their special spirit into your home and allow you to feel the promptings from the spirit that will lead you to how you can further the work. Invite them over so they can gain your trust so you can be confident in giving them referrals as well.
4. Pray! Pray for charity "for charity never faileth". Something that I've learned during my short 6 months is that charity is key in life. Not just being a missionary but being human and living in a world growing further and further from love and closer and closer to a time described when we will be "past feeling" and "men's hearts shall fail them". Fight the disease of apathy and gain the motivation to talk to everyone you see about this glorious gospel by praying for charity. "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen"

Love you all!
Love,
Elder Puzey

This is Daniel. We liked his message so we talked to him for a little bit (we maybe said 5 words but talked to him for 30 minutes)
