Week 25: Broken Bones and Temple Trip

So as most of you know, Elder Kunz and I cover two wards. The Adelanto ward which is just a normal ward up here in the desert and then the Mojave Ward which is the Samoan ward. In Samoan culture (and really any Polynesian culture) they love to feed missionaries because they have a strong belief in being blessed for feeding servants or messengers of the Lord. So most of our dinner appointments are in the Samoan ward and on Saturday we were able to have dinner with the Jacksons. They have three boys that are still home and they are so cool. They all love football and sometimes on the weekend we will spend our workout time at their house in the backyard with the weights. Ahmir is a Senior this year and a few weeks ago they had senior night. At some point during the game Ahmir got tackled pretty badly and both his Tibia and Fibula were broken. So back to dinner, we had some good nachos and then taught a quick message like we always do and this night we talked about faith. God gives us trials. It's kinda just a part of life but the way that we respond to the trials has a huge impact on who we become and where we end up. For Ahmir this is a big trial. He will no longer be able to play in the playoffs and will also miss the next season of football. All of his plans of playing football in college right after graduating go right out the window. Pretty much his whole world got turned upside down and only God knows why. When we face trials sometimes we might not know why but we can either blame God or draw closer to Him and learn the lesson he needs us to. Always remember that God will not give us more than we can handle WITH His help. The trial might be to help us grow, remember, learn, experience or many other things so keep that in mind when you find yourself asking why.

Additional news from the Samoan ward. I was able to make it about 5 months in the field and in the Samoan ward without being offered Oka but on Tuesday that all ended. Brother Roe was cooking for us and gave us some Oka which is basically raw tuna with some sauce. Stuff was nasty but I kept it down.

We were also able to go to the Temple yesterday and that's why we are emailing today cause the P-day gets all moved around when we get a Temple trip. It was nice to be able to enjoy the Spirit in the Temple and let all the worries of a missionary melt away for a little bit. For those of you that know me well, you know that I love my quite alone time and the Temple is one of the only places that you really get that. If you can, go to the Temple as often as you can! We are meant to be there.

News for the Adelanto Ward:
We gained a new investigator named Camille who came up to us while we were waiting to go to a lesson with one of our other investigators. We had actually talked to Camille's husband a while ago and he said to come over whenever (which people love to tell us) but every time we did try to see him he was either busy or wasn't home. So Camille asked us a few questions about missions and then invited us over any time (what did I tell you?). But this time she was actually home when we tried her and we were able to have a super solid lesson with her. We talked about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Elder Kunz and I both shared our testimonies of how happy the restored gospel has made us and she asked us if we were serious. Of course we were serious!! She told us how she wanted that, she wanted something that could make us both so happy. So we told her about the Book of Mormon and how it's the key to her getting her own answer to whether or not the message that we shared is true. She told us that she would read it every night so we'll let you know how that goes when we meet up with her again. I want y'all to know that this Gospel really has made me more happy than anything else in the world. I know that Joseph Smith wanted to know why there were so many churches and which one to go to and I know that he was called to be a prophet of God to restore the only and true church of Jesus Christ where the same Priesthood authority that He gave to His disciples has been restored. I know that if you read the Book of Mormon then you will be happier, come closer to God and know for yourselves that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Lord's kingdom here on the Earth to help us prepare for the second coming of our brother, Jesus Christ.

Love you all and miss you very much. I am a strong believer that Christmas season starts the day after Halloween but it's still in the mid 70's here so doesn't quite feel like it. All is well though.
Love,
Elder Puzey
