Week 9: The New Whip

So I've made it through my first transfer! To no surprise Elder Etheridge and I are not transferring. Elder Reilly (one of the elders we live with) is getting a greenie though so now I won't be the newest one at the house. Even though we just got a brand new truck we have a new whip! We traded the Zone Leaders because they are going to do all the bike logistics so they need a truck and we get their Subaru Legacy. It's a good little car but it needs a little more (like a turbo).

This week we were able to teach a ton of lessons which was really good! One of the lessons that sticks out the most was a lesson that we taught to a little ten year old girl. She is the daughter of a less active family in the Adelanto ward. We had to switch up how we normally teach just because she is so much younger than the average age of our investigators. It was amazing to see the light of Christ inside of a child. She knew so much which just shows how simple the gospel is and how much of an impact that parents have on kids because if they talk about the gospel in the house then kids remember what they hear. We are working really hard with her and her family because we know the joy that the gospel brings families and we know that they can be together forever if they accept and live the gospel together. Nothing is more important than this.

A story that I read recently in the Book of Mormon emphasizes the importance of parenting in the development of faith in youth. In Alma chapter 56 is says, "Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it." The testimonies of young disciples begin with the parents. I'm so thankful for the foundation that my parents have given me. If it was not for them I would not be here. There will come a time when they need to decide for themselves though. In the wards that we cover we see that youth have either discovered the truthfulness of the gospel for themselves or have fallen off of the path. I challenge any of you that do not have your own testimony of this gospel to get one. Find out for yourself. That is the only way that you will be truly converted. That is the only way that you will find the strength to endure to the end and cash in the prize of eternal life. "And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way" (2 Nephi 31:21)

Love y'all and I'll see ya in 22 more months
