Week 7: Field Trip

This week has felt super long but has gone by really fast. On Tuesday we had the four week meeting so it was good to see everyone that I came out with. We got some good instruction from President Taylor and a spiritual refill. On Thursday we went down to Rancho because one of the Elders that we live with had an appointment and it was really fun. During our little field trip we ate at Cafe Rio and while we were driving to and from the Mission Office we saw some more tender mercies including a Ferrari 458, M4, M3, WRX and others. Not going to lie I really want to serve in the Rancho area so we'll see if that happens.

This Friday was also the day that our investigator, Tosin, was baptized. It was an interesting event. Tosin has had 5 strokes and a brain aneurysm so his balance is not the best. The first time he was dunked he didn't bend his legs at all or plug his nose so Elder Etheridge was struggling to get him back up and then we had to wait a little bit for Tosin to get his bearings but the second time he was completely submerged at one point so we were all good. When Tosin was changing we heard him singing and saying "Thank you Jesus". This man has incredible faith and I love him so much. I was able to confirm him on Sunday (after practicing how to say his full name which is Folorunsho Oluwatosin Adeshina) and we could tell that he was so happy to have the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

Something really cool that happened during the week was we picked up a new investigator. He is the step son of someone we're already teaching. We've talked to him about the Book of Mormon and he's read the introduction. The best part was when we were leaving and his mom came out and asked if there were any youth activities that her son could go to. We also found out that she was baptized at some point. It was really amazing to see the Spirit soften her heart and reach out to us when she had never even talked to us before.

I just want to leave a reminder for y'all that we are never alone. In Jacob chapter 5 we read about the parable of the vineyard. It talks about how we have to do small and simple things to make sure the vineyard brings forth good fruit. In chapter 72 it says, "And it came to pass that the servants did go and labor with their mights; and the Lord of the vineyard labored also with them" Sometimes even the missionaries forget that Jesus Christ is always with us and He labors with us. I know that Jesus lives and loves us and is always with us. His Spirit softens hearts and His example and Atonement allow us to remove the burden of sin from our shoulders. Whenever I take the Sacrament I always think of this video and when He is getting whipped and looks right at us. Next time you take the Sacrament remember Him and make the Sacrament more meaningful to you.
