Week 44: Exchanges
So some updates on some of the people we're working with:
Literally everyone is the same as last week..
So some updates on some of the other people. Last week I talked about Tony and Lupe and we had an appointment with them on Saturday. I wasn't there cause I was on exchanges but Elder Nordgren said this about the lesson. Back story: last week when we taught them the first lesson we asked if we could come back and set an appointment for this Saturday (couple days ago). MOST of the time when we set appointments they fall through cause we show up and they don't answer or aren't home or "had something come up" but when Elder Nordgren and Elder Jeppson showed up they let them in and had hot chocolate, water, and some treats set up for them. This time some of the family was there to listen so that's three more investigators! They said the lesson went really well.
When that ^ was happening I was down in Rancho Cucamonga with Elder Etheridge. Elder Etheridge trained me and now he's one of the APs. The whole day was awesome but I'll highlight the best parts.
Got to see a BMW M3 and an M4
Got to go selective car tracting (we look around for cars parked in the driveway that we could talk to people about). We used to do this when we were serving over in Adelanto.
This next one is one of the neatest experiences I've had on my mission thus far.
We were doing some contacting to fill up some free time that we had before a lesson and we started to talk to this girl that looked like she was moving. She said that she had a couple spare minutes so we began to talk to her about the restoration. Elder Etheridge and I were back in our groove like when we were companions and when Elder Etheridge recounted the experience of the first vision she began to cry (like BIG drops, the type that can roll down your cheek, down your fleece and still have enough mass to make it to the ground). She told us that she had a friend that had been a missionary and that she thought that it was a sign that we were there at that time and that she knew it was time to learn more. She even used some mission terminology and said that maybe she could be our "golden contact" haha. We gave her a Book of Mormon and she seemed very eager to read it. We found out that she was in fact moving out and up to Apple Valley so hopefully she finds her way to more missionaries. We kept walking down the street to our lesson and just had the biggest smiles on our faces.
Their truck was in the shop so we had to whip around in a brand new Prius Prime so that was sad for sure but really wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.
A member in the ward has been bringing her boyfriend to church the last couple weeks and we got to start teaching him so hopefully he continues to learn more and accepts the gospel.
Yesterday we had Stake Conference and Elder Pearson from the 70 was there to speak to us. He talked about a lot of different things but what stuck out to me was the fact that we need to be willing to align our will with the Lord's will. Accepting callings and magnifying them are one way that we do that because as he pointed out, callings always come to us at the worst times! He told a story of being extended a calling to be a Stake Missionary (which back then was like a 20 hour per week commitment) right during a very busy time in him life and career. He could not believe it. He needed help from the bishop to solve his problems but all the bishop did was extend a calling that would take even more of his time. He prayed and prayed to receive help and an answer and the impression came to him that God was trying to help him. So of course he accepts the calling and it leads to a bunch of things happening that positively affected his life and now he's a 70.
This is the last week of the transfer so I'll let you all know any changes that happen the next time I email. Hope you're all doing well!
Love,
Elder Puzey
A lady in the ward has a hand tree. Most of the handprints are from missionaries. Elder Puzey and Nordgren adding their prints. Elder Puzey making his print next to Elder Etheridge (his trainer).
Jose and his buddies reminding us that things could always be worse.
