Week 42: Homemade Fried Chicken

Crazy things:

1) It snowed! I didn't realize that that happens in California.
2) We saw a rainbow!
3) Vivian got baptized! So here's the story:
We show up to the building around 12:30 to start filling the font so that way it's nice and warm. We set up the room and get the hymn books passed out and move tables in and out of the room like you do. 1:15 rolls around and that's when we told Vivian to be there so she could change and some practice could be done before people got there. Well 1:30 comes around so we give her a call. She informed us that on their way home they got pulled over because one of their brake lights was out! They held them there for a long time because Vivan is from Spokane and  still has an out of state driver's license (shout-out to my Washington gang). She told us that she already called the Bishop and that he said she didn't have to worry and that everything would work out. Well that's true but WE were still worrying especially if the mission President was to show up (which he didn't). Then we get a call from one of our investigators, Xavier, asking if he was in the right place so we go out and greet him and bring him inside. He is greeted warmly by the ward members (they're awesome at fellow-shipping and making our investigators feel welcome so shout out to Bear Valley ward). So Vivian gets changed, the font is filled and the water is warm, the pictures are taken and we're all set. Elder Nordgren baptized her and while they were changing I gave a talkish thing about the gospel of Jesus Christ using some scriptures. I chained them together Moroni 7:33 -> Alma 34:17-18 -> Moroni 8:25 -> 3 Nephi 19:13 -> 2 Nephi 32:5 -> 2 Nephi 31:15 and then the Savior puts it all in one for us in 3 Nephi 27:19-20. After the baptism was over we showed Xavier the chapel which he was pretty impressed by.

After the baptism a bunch of people got together for some home-made fried chicken made by mama Shirley. It was pretty good and really hit the spot with some light sprinkles (or as the locals stated "it's really coming down now") of rain outside.

Yesterday I confirmed Vivian in sacrament meeting and Xavier showed up too! Then one of the members of the ward brought her friend and said that he wants to start taking the lessons! It was definitely a refreshing day of miracles.

In other news we had MLC (Missionary Leadership Council) this past Thursday so we had a good trip down to Rancho and when we got close to the city we spotted a GT-R and a M3 side by side on the highway. The meeting was good and we talked about the things that we can do to help get more people from having a baptism date to a baptism day. The conclusion that we came to is that we really need the help of the members in order to make that leap. Elder Nordgren and I have been blessed with a beast ward that helps us by coming out to lessons with us, becomes friends with our investigators, reads with them, calls them and does everything that we can't do (literally the only thing that we can do is teach the lessons). So make sure you introduce yourself to anyone that you don't recognize at sacrament meeting and always be looking for those small and simple ways to introduce people to the Gospel because that's how it starts for everyone.

Love y'all
Love,
Elder Puzey
