Week 14: Sickness and Eclipse

Dear loyal fan-club,

Sadly this week has been plagued by some sickness throughout the whole Hurtado house (the house I'm currently living in). So by going on some exchanges with the companions that weren't sick we still met with some of our investigators. We're feeling better but none of us are 100% yet. One of our goals in the mission right now is to contact 10 people a day. A contact is inviting someone not currently in our teaching pool to do something that will bring them closer to Jesus Christ. So for the past few weeks we've been trying our hardest to contact as many people as we see. It really gets you into the missionary spirit.

While being sick or home with another sick missionary I read Our Heritage which I loved because I love the pioneers. Their faith is passed by none. I'm a little jealous because they got to be around Joseph Smith (my favorite guy ever). It's amazing to read the stories of these early church members that would leave all they own to follow the prophet. I hope we all strive to sustain the prophet today as much as the saints did then so that way he could lead them to salvation. I also started reading Jesus The Christ which is an AMAZING book about how awesome Jesus is and it gives a lot of addition details for doctrine and other principles of the church. I suggest both these books to all.

Earlier today we went on a hike as a zone (some companionships were absent). We drove all the way to Wrightwood which is higher in elevation so it was nice and cool and there were pine trees, it reminded me of being in the mountains of Washington. First, we met at the edge of the road and took some time to hit golf balls off of the mountain and then continued our drive to the head of the trail. We hiked up to an abandoned mine and did some exploring. No one died so I think it was a success. The view was amazing (hopefully the camera captures it) and we would have been able to see the valley if the smog wasn't so thick around the cities. All in all it was a good day and I think it was just what we needed as we are recovering from cabin fever (and real fevers/ soar throats). Hopefully next week there will be more to report!

Love y'all,
Elder Puzey
