Week 12: Apathy
This week has really been more of the same but we've had some good breakthroughs! We put three of our investigators on date to be baptized so that moves it up to four potential baptisms!! We have Betty, Stephen, Jose and Diane on date and we are continuing to help them get closer and closer to their Savior Jesus Christ.
Yesterday we had an Area 70 at church which was super awesome! Elder Miskin talked to us about a disease that is plaguing the whole world, including within the church. The brethren have named this disease "Apathy" which is a combination of two words A- Without and Pathos- Feeling. Nephi described it as past feeling. As the world continues to grow further and further from the standards of the gospel and as people continue to lose face to face interactions, people are becoming less and less loving for one another. Too often we see hate crimes and a general disregard for our brothers and sisters in the world. Elder Miskin said that the cure for this is conversion. He gave us the three things that are key components in conversion (the antidote for Apathy).
1. Reading the Book of Mormon daily both individually and as a family
2. Doing family history and temple work
3. Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy
We are promised to not only be given strength to overcome temptation but also strength from the Holy Ghost and our ancestors by doing these three things. What Elder Miskin told us is that if our ancestors are stuck in spirit prison then how are they going to guard us and protect us? And who is going to be the person that releases them from their prison? YOU!
I want to challenge y'all to read the Book of Mormon everyday as a family and on your own because the Book of Mormon does three things for us (Alma 37:8)
1. Enlarges our memories
2. Convinces us of our errors
3. Brings us knowledge of our Father in Heaven
I love you all and miss you much!
Love,
