Week 53: Catching my shirt on fire
I thought I'd go with a more interesting subject line to see if I can trick more people into reading my emails. Let me know if it worked. The reason for the subject line is the fact that this last week I hit my year mark and that means the traditional burning of the white shirt. (See pics email) I had to cut it into strips and put them in a baking pan to keep the flames down to make sure I didn't burn down our balcany or entire apartment building. (Fun fact: The smoke alarm went off for like 5 seconds at 2 in the morning the night after the shirt burning. We still can't figure out why since the flames were sitting in two inches of water for hours by that point)
More fun stuff from the week:
We got taken to an authentic Peruvian restaurant and it was suppeerrrr good. To finish it off we had some ice cream made with some plan or fruit or something only grown in Peru.
We took some pictures in the middle of Euclid, my favorite street in Upland. (Upland is the city just west of us that we cover as part of the YSA ward)
The GPS took us to the base of the mountains while trying to find a YSA referral. We ended up at the trail head for some reserve. Pretty cool view though, I wasn't complaining.
Spiritual stuff:
We taught our YSA investigator Jeremy. He just got done with finals (I don't miss finals even in the slightest) so he had a few minutes. We talked to him about the Plan of Salvation and read Alma 40 with him. He's funny cause when he reads something profound he'll write it down and knod his head with an approving look on his face.
We also got to meet with Mila again. She read all the tabs that were in the marked Book of Mormon and now she's in 1 Nephi 1. We reviewed the Restoration because she is super close but still not fully understanding the idea of there being one true church just like Christ set up, back on the earth. As always she sent us home with some zip lock bags full of treats.
We finally got to meet with Don again now that he's back from visiting Indonesia. We talked with him about the Bible a little. He is having this hangup of if the church went apostate beginning around the year 100 ish then how could the Catholic church canonize the Bible around the year 300. We tried our best to give a satisfactory answer but I'm still not sure if he is passed it. We ended up reading the first half of 1 Nephi 1 with him in the hopes that he'll finish it and pray about it. We can have all the questions in the world, whether it's about the canonization of the Bible, or prophets or anything we don't fully understand yet. If we read it and know that it's true then we can wait patiently and with hope that one day all our questions will be answered. That is why we call it the keystone of our religion.
I hope you're all doing well and doing everything you can to share the joy of the gospel! The world needs it.
