Week 23: Samoan Elvis
So this week one of the Samoan Bishop's sons came home from his mission. He served in South Africa somewhere so he started his journey home on Monday and was picked up from the airport on Wednesday. The homecoming party was on Saturday and it was a pretty good time. Just like every Samoan party ever there was a TON of food ranging from shrimp to taro to chicken. It was really cool to see all the family members come together and celebrate the accomplishment. After being in Africa for two years the returned missionary was a little more skinny than the rest of the family but a few months home might fix that. The best part of the party was the Samoan Elvis that graced us with a few songs. I'll send a video of it but I'm sure the sound quality won't do it justice.
In other news, the washer in our house broke so this morning we had to go to the ghetto to find a laundromat to use. Luckily we made it out of there with the remainder of our quarters and all our white shirts.
The best part of the week was yesterday night. We had a meeting with our investigator Christine and it was awesome! In missionary work there are a few different types of people. There's the basher. Self-explanatory. All we can really do is defend the faith and try to represent Jesus Christ in the situation. Then there are those who like to discuss religion. These people are way more awesome because they'll actually listen to logical statements that we make but they are also firm in their faith which is awesome too. There are people who are willing to listen to us because we have something good but they're not willing to act or they don't fully understand why we are there with them. Sometimes they turn into what we call eternalgators. Then there are those people who are simply ready. Christine is one of these people. They listen to what we have to say, ask questions if they have any, and also do what we invite them to do. These are the best people to find as a missionary and they are the people we are trying to find everyday for two years. They are ready to pray about what we share because they truly want to know for themselves if what we say is true or not. When we are blessed with people who are prepared they move forward and progress very quickly because they see how their lives will be blessed by the Gospel and by following Jesus Christ.
I, along with every missionary ever, plead, with those of you reading this, that you will invite your friends and family to talk with the missionaries if you feel that the gospel could bless their lives. Not only does it make our job easier but "how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!"
I hope y'all have a good week and try to think of those people that could really benefit from the Gospel.
Love,
Elder Puzey
