Week 20: General Conference
As I'm sure many of you know, this last weekend was conference weekend which was super awesome! It was a nice break from the normal weekend routine that we have as missionaries. Normally we're at church for nine hours because we cover two wards and also have meetings to go to so only having four hours was a good change. This year I tried to guess what the names of the Talks are going to be to help me summarize the talks in one sentence or a few words. We'll see if I was even close.
Obviously everyone gets something different out of Conference because we are taught by the Spirit. For me I heard a lot about being humble, sustaining church leaders, the Book of Mormon and using the Atonement for change. Something that's different is what we all gain from Conference and from the talks but what's all the same for everyone is that the Prophet and the Apostles are called of God for everyone. As the Restored Church of Jesus Christ we have many unique messages that we are able to teach our investigators and this fact of living prophets is another unique message for the world.
Sometimes as members we try to pinpoint the most important aspect or doctrine of the church and I believe that the simple fact that God loves us allows for the rest of the Gospel to unfold. If God didn't love us then the Earth would not have been created, we wouldn't have a Savior, we wouldn't have anyone to pray to, there would be no purpose for this life and nothing in the life to come. Fortunately for us, God does love us. He loves you and me and your neighbor. We are all of Gods children and He does have a plan specific for each and every one of us. Because God loves us and is our Heavenly Father not only do we have a plan to follow, someone to cry to and somewhere to go we also have help along the way. We have the precious gift of the Holy Ghost and we also have the Prophet and Apostles. They lead and guide us because God does not want to leave us confused or with questions. I know that Thomas S. Monson has been called for us. The words of the Prophet and the Apostles are like a modern day Book of Mormon or Bible that will help us with the questions we have. Indeed all five of the questions that I had going into Conference were all answered. If you don't have a testimony of living prophets, get one. It will bring a lot of power and support into your life by knowing that God is talking to you through His chosen mouthpiece. I also implore everyone to gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is the key to knowing for yourself if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true and very same church that Jesus Christ himself established on the Earth. With that testimony, everything else can fall into place. It is the most important thing that you can do for yourself, member or not.
Love you all very much, crazy to think that it's already been 20 weeks!
Love,
Elder Puzey

Some people may have slept a bit through conference.
